At Catherine’s Wedding

Jen Feroze

I don’t know many people.

I’m seven months pregnant

and my outfit has made me

a milk float in heels.

The barn is buttery with September—

sun and flowers, haphazard

and unapologetic in churns and urns.

Fairy lights festoon the beams

and Catherine is holding court

on the mezzanine

golden in her Grecian dress,

gesticulating with fizz

and making everyone laugh. God,

the look in her husband’s eyes.

After a while I have to look away.
